readers journal #17

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I have already started and finished the book “F My Life” by Maxime Vallete, Guillaume Passaglia, and Didier Guedj. The reason I picked out this book was because on the front of it, it had a very funny and catchy title that just made me so curious as to what it is about. A quote that I found and really liked was on the bottom cover of the book where it said, its funny, and it’s true, except when it is happening to you. The reason I like this quote and it is so significance is because it is actually true where everything is funny except when it is happening to you.
There were six things that I did before, while, and after reading this book (2 for each). First there were two things I did before reading this book. One thing I did before reading this book was I looked at the cover of the book and notices a big “F” over a person, which gave me the clue that this book will have embarrassing scenes in the book. The second thing I did before reading this book is I skim and scanned through the book slowly just to get a clue on what the book will be about. Second I did 2 things while reading this book. One thing I did while reading this book is I pictured everything that was happening in this book in my head as if it were a movie. Another thing I did while reading this book I also notice something about how the author write his books. He puts the funny where if it the paragraph is really funny it will in very hard bold. Where if it weren’t as funny then it wouldn’t be bold. Basically, it shows you how funny it is based on how bold the paragraph is. Third I did 3 things after reading this book one thing I did after reading this book was I tried to compare some of the writing to scenes in my life. Another thing I did after reading this book is I asked myself how I could prevent any of these things happening to me.
The genre of this book is non-fiction humor. The characteristics of this book being humor is that it shows real life, funny events of other people lives. Once a guy made a website where people would post embarrassing events of their live to express themselves and then the author said that he should make a book on all of these events since there were so much. The main idea of this book is embarrassing events that happened to people in real life and are funny ones to (implied). If I was to give this book another title I would say “Does This Only Happen To Me!” because people who get embarrassed very often are always thinking if this only happens to them. The Only supporting detail found in this book would be the FML at the end of every paragraph because it is paragraphs written by other people. And this is sensory.
The essential message of this book is to notice what happens to other people lives and see if it matches to you and don’t make the same mistake.
A cause and effect in this book would be where a lady fills her cart at the grocery store and the man says look like you are going to have a fun party and the effect would be the lady replying that it is for after my mothers funeral which embarrassed the man.
One thing that would be compared between me and some things in this book would be me and the man trying to be funny and made a fool out of himself. One thing I could contrast between me and some things in this book would be me not making most of these foolish mistakes.
I was able to find only four different text features in this book.
Bolded letters- helps you notice something important
Title- a topic in about 1-6 words on what the book will be about.
Sub- topic- tells you what the rest of the passage will be about.
Illustration- explains what you read in a picture format.
The pattern of organization of this book is cause and effect because it talks about an action, and then says the effects.
The author’s purpose for writing this book is to entertain readers with funny and embarrassing events of other people.
There is no author’s perspective because it is necessarily his writing.
Every word in this book was simple and I understood each and everyone clearly.
(Text-to-self) This book reminds me of some of the mistakes I have went through in my life.
(Text-to-text) this book reminds me of another book called “that’s what she said” which is also humor
(Text-to-world) this book reminds me of the mistakes of other people that I know.
I would recommend this book to people over ages 13 and older as long as they are mature about what they here in this book. If I were in any of the people shoes I would never overcome it and will be very humiliated. If I would rate this book I would rate a 10 out of 10 because all of the information was actually funny and I am really enjoying it.
                           Sincerely,

Readers Journal #16

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I have already started and almost finished with the book “F My Life” by Maxime Vallete, Guillaume Passaglia, and Didier Guedj. The reason I picked out this book was because on the front of it, it had a very nice and catchy title that just made me so curious as to what it is about. A quote that I found and really liked was on the bottom cover of the book where it said, its funny, and it’s true, except when it is happening to you. I cannot say what I have done after reading this book since I haven’t finished reading it yet

Current Event #3

Title: Animal shelter’s behavior experts face life and death decision for animals
Author: by john Owens
Source: Miami Herald
The topic of the article is Animals behavior
The main idea of the article is: how animals are loosing their lives because of aggression to others
The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform readers on animals around that are loosing their lives. (Implied)
The pattern of organization of the article is argument and support.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is because it says that they are killing dogs and reason why.
The text features included in the article are: Topic
The topic helps by telling you what the following passage will be about This article is about how animal who aren’t qualified as harmless animals are killed. Mostly for aggression. The story also included that they run animals through a series of behavioral tests, and those who pass can move on to adoption, while those who fail may be euthanized, joining the 7,400 dogs and 11,000 cats put to death at Chicago shelters annually
Current Events Journal The significance (importance) of this article is that animals are loosing lives only because they are not applicable for adoption.
What I learned from this article is that 7,400 dogs and 11,000 cats died.
What I liked about this article is that all of the information was accurate and all of my questions were easily answered.
What I did not like about it  was that in the middle of reading it was very sad and I just couldn’t believe what was happening.
People over 13 years old should read this article because the information must be taken maturely and they might also read it and think about it a different way.
This article reminds me of (text-to-self) when my friend David when he lost his dog for to much aggression.
(text-to-text) This article reminds me of the book buddy when the dog dies for trying to save his 6 doggies.
(text-to-world) this article reminds me of all the crazy pit bulls in the world who always bite humans.
There were no words in this article that I didn’t understand.

readers journal #15

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I have just finished reading the book "The Single Shard" by on of the most outstanding authors Linda Sue Park. The main reason I picked this passage was because it was the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children like me. The significant of this passage was it started out as a poor kid living under a bridge to that little 12 year old working with a potter then named by the potters dead son (Hung-Up). There were 6 reading strategies I used to read this book. I did 2 things before I read this book. First, I read the synopsis at the back of the book to get a hang of what I am going to be reading. Second, I looked at the picture and noticed the award it got for its ratings. There are 2 things I did while reading this book. First, I imagined everything I was reading in my mind. Second, I stopped at every chapter and thought about what I have read so far in that chapter. There are two things I did after reading this book. First, I put the book down and thought the whole book threw to see if I remember everything. Second, I looked for a full summary to check if I missed anything in the book and to get the information to anything I misunderstood.
This book is fiction- historical fiction. There are no characteristics that it is fiction except that it is not true but can happen. There are four main characters in this story. The first one is tree ear and he is a very nice boy that always helps is old friend crane man. Tree ear is not selfish at all and always make sure that crane man gets something to eat. The second character in this story is crane man who lives with tree ear. Crane man is an old guy that is able to make sandals for tree ear every time he needs. The third character is Min, who ends up teaching tree ear how to make pots out of clay. Min is a very angry man that is mad because his son died when he was at a very young age.  The fourth character is Amija, mins wife and the one that always gives good care to tree ear. Ajima is a very nice old lady that loves tree ear so much and feeds him every time for lunch and sometimes supper. The protagonists are all of the 4 characters who were just mentioned. There is no antagonist in this story. The foils in this story are the guards. This story took place in Ch’ulp’o, Korea. The time was around the 12th century with summer weather conditions the winter weather condition. (Exposition) Tree ear was a poor orphan that lives under a bridge with is friend crane man who is very old. (Rising action) Everyday he watches a potter make pots and one time he came in without the potter knowing and dropped a pot. The potter who’s name was Min got extremely mad at him and made tree ear work for him for 9 straight days. (Climax) There was another master potter named Kang and want to show the royals his pot as did Min. (falling action) Tree ear goes to mins house and finds the pot that Min has been working on smashed in pieces on the ground. Tree ear at first thought that it was Min who smashed it in frustration but they found out that it was a robber. Mins wife then comes in and tells tree ear to get more clay for Min. The royals come in and says that they want to see mins pot where tree ear was only able to show him a single shard of the smashed pot. Tree ear was very curious as to which pot he would pick and he had picked tree ears saying that he picked the single shard because of the resources used to it and that he had seen Min doing a lot of pots and deserves it. Min got a commission for the royals for 1 and half years. (Resolution) although with all of the happiness tree ear was very unsatisfied hearing that crane man has died from a hard attack, which meant tree ear had to live with Min and his wife. Since tree ear was to live with Min and his wife Amija asked tree for one favor and that favor was to be able to call tree ear Hyung-Gu the name of Min and Amija’s son. Therefore tree ear gladly accepted. The main conflict is internal, man vs. self. The tone of this story is that the author thinks that at the end of the story tree ear didn’t hear what he want to hear at the end of the story when he was told that crane man died. The mood of the story is the tree ear got his favorite dream come true but lost one of his best friends, which makes the reader both sad and happy. The theme of this book is that with one piece you can prove so much. The moral of this story is something will happen when you do not expect it like when tree ear never expected to learn how to make a pot, he learned from master Min. The point of view in this story is first person. The author’s purpose in writing this book is to entertain people about how it was like in the 12th century. The figurative languages in this book are topic, sub-topic, italics, bolded words, and pictures.
This book was awarded for a great reason. A good reason it was awarded was because it’s setting was about 8 centuries ago. Historical fiction is on of my favorite sub genres only because it is about what happened a long time ago. Linda Sue Park is an amazing author and I plan on reading more of her books.
If I were to rate this book on what I personally think of it I would give it a 10 of 10. The reason I would give it a rate of 10 of 10 is because as I said it is historical fiction, which is my favorite sub-genre.
                                                Sincerely,
                                                       Ofek Peer
